I have wanted to learn how to knit for years, but have always worried about how challenging it would be to learn. Although I do seed beading and consider myself to be pretty advanced in that area, the idea of working with knitting needles has seemed a bit daunting to me. When I got the chance to order this book through Amazon's Vine program, I decided to jump on it.In general, I like the For Dummies series since they break things down into easy steps and answer a lot of questions you might have about the topic. The same is true here; this book walks you through the basics of knitting, and makes things as simple as possible.That being said, I still struggled with figuring some things out, and had to resort to You Tube videos. I'm the type of learner who learns best when someone shows me something (especially when it comes to a manual project), so using a book like this just doesn't work as well for my learning style.There are some cute patterns included, but I think I will purchase the Knitting Without Tears book that comes highly recommended and take some classes at my local Michael's. :-)
Excellent book. All directions easy to read and the book has a very comprehensive content of information for anyone in any stage of knitting. I recommend this book highly.
I have tried learning to knit by watching YouTube but couldn't do it. This book has been amazing!! I have finally begun to learn the basics.
This is a POCKET edition! I guess I should have looked at the number of pages, but it looks EXACTLY like my friend's and I thought it was the full edition. I hope I can return it.
I have a friend who's been learning to knit and wanted more instruction. I gave her this bookand she loves it. I also ordered her The Knit Stitch Pattern Handbook: An Essential Collection of 300 Designer Stitches and Techniques, which she hasn't read yet, but she thinks between these two books, she's got it made. I'l update this review if she changes her mind, but so far, it's just what she wanted.
I've been trying to teach myself to knit for years, and someone recently recommended Knitting for Dummies. The instructions and diagrams are clear and easy to understand, and the small pocket-size edition is perfect for sticking in my project bag and taking on the go with me.
I used to knit when I was in my early 20's and then stopped. I began again last summer when a friend asked for 6" X 6" knitted squared to make quilts for charity. I knitted away, an infinity of knitted squares...and then got bored and ambitious. I wanted to move on to scarves, sweaters, gloves, socks, the sky is the limit! But I didn't know how to move on to other projects.I have used the "For Dummies" books to learn how to do a variety of things - from Photoshop Elements to creating Websites. So, I thought that "Knitting for Dummies" would be just the thing I needed to learn how to improve my knitting skills and create the objects I wanted.The book does just that. It instructs with words and images and is easily understandable. A plus is the many interesting patterns at the back of this guide. I highly recommend this for both the new and highly experienced knitter. One can always learn something new...and again, the patterns are awesome.
I am finding this book full of basic information on all aspects of knitting. I think anyone new to knitting would find this book very helpful. I have not read it all, but do not regret spending the money for it.
Good book. Bought it for a friend who wants to learn, but never seems to have time to let me teach her. Instructions are good, so I'm hoping she can find time on her own.
