I have made it a point to collect all of the Crestline series of large-format, hard cover photographic histories. They provide a comprehensive overview of their selected subjects, and even if I did not have an initial interest in the topic, by the time I finished it I had acquired a good basic working knowledge of the subject. In this case, "Steam Traction Engines" were not a particular area of interest to me, but in reading the book I found them to be a fascinating subject. Each page is covered with photographs, and each photograph is well captioned. In addition, chapters by either year or manufacturer feature a brief narrative to introduce that section. The author knows his subject well, and the material is well presented . . . As is true of all the other Crestline series as well. They are a must-have for any serious student of vehicle history.
I found this book to be very informative in regards to all things related to steam traction engines. Being an operator of a steam traction engine I am always on the look out for items in relation to my hobby. I am very impressed with the amount of time and research the author went through to produce this book along with the intricate drawings. I have learned many things reading this book and go back to it constantly to refresh my brain. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in steam traction engines.
