Meh, I'm not much for alcohol and substance abuse stories, but I enjoyed the storyline once the relationship development started to center on the two main characters. Bishop was an ass, and Jake was way more patient than I could have been, but these two eventually found their way to each other and a healthy relationship. Very nicely done, getting me to like Bish after such a dreary start.
I love stories that make a villain human and likable. At first, if you read Breaking Down, you really don't want to care too much for Bishop, but Megan's got a way of making you forget that he's a total d*** and instead focus on his story. Chalk up another win for Megan Lowe.
All I Want by Megan Lowe is the fifth book in the Rocking Racers series and the only one I've read. It chronicles Bishop and Jake's relationship.Bishop is the star and Jake has admired him from afar for years, however the minute these guys let any type of feelings finally show for each other, all hell breaks loose. Between family and jobs, there is too much going on for Bishop to concentrate on Jake. While predictable, I liked following the ups and downs of these two. It was almost like good cop, bad cop and I am so glad Megan Lowe didn't make Bishop one of "those guys" when he was at his lowest point. She let him teeter at the edge and then brought him right back to what was right. The book is well written and as the only one I have read in the series, I did feel like I was missing a few inside jokes. Bishop and Jake were solid characters that you couldn't help but want a happy ending for.Reviewed for Renee Entress's Blog.
When the book first begins, I am not a fan of Bishop. He seems to be arrogant and doesn’t care about much. He cares for Jake. Jake who has always been there for him. Jake who has stood by him and talked him down no matter what. Jake who supports and believes in him. Now Bishop decides to tell Jake how he feels and this is when things go haywire for Bishop. As Bishop grows and learns you fall in love with him.Jake I adored in the beginning. I didn’t like how he went about things after Bishop stood up to his dad but I understood why he did it. This was when Bishop spiraled down but also started to grow and mature. When Bishop was floundering and hurt he self destructed. This self destruction brought him down a few notches and he learned humility. He also saw that the expectations to ride overtook his love and he didn’t know where he wanted to be anymore. He knew he wanted to be the man Jake should be with. So he takes his punishment and works on bettering himself. He does some self discovery and learns what he wants to do. He goes about finding peace within and his love for riding again. He becomes more humble and down to earth. He learns what it truly means to work for something and feel good about how you do because you earned it. In the end I adored him again just had to deal with how he left things at the beginning. And when he is ready he faces Jake and begins to get that relationship back. He doesn’t go in all cocky but very tentative and shows Jake the new Bishop. He woos him and makes him feel loved and adored. He treats Jake like a king. We see them build up a relationship and relearn about one another. They become each other’s rock and support. Their love knows no bounds and they appreciate one another more after what they went through to get to be together.A wonderful story on self discovery and crawling up from the bottom. ON love and family, support and friendship.
I think I saw through Bishop Royal’s attitude straight away after meeting his father Jonah, although father is a bit if stretch because you wouldn’t treat an enemy how Jonah treats Bishop. After being canned from the BMX team he rides for and being―once again―chewed out and belittled by his father and told what a waste of space he is, Bishop can’t wait to get back to Jake, his childhood friend and the only good thing in Bishop’s life.Thing is, Bishop’s always had feeling’s for Jake, but no one knows, especially not his homophobic ass of a father, but after the day he’s had, he’s got nothing to lose and plans to tell Jake his true feelings. Things don’t go quite to plan though which catapult Bishop into a period of drinking and drugs and dangerous encounters, until he has a wake-up call and meets Bennington and enters a period of dawning realisation that he’s got to learn to love himself and get some passion back for life and the things HE wants to and achieve and not what his father expects of someone with the Royal name.I loved Jake and how perfect he was for Bishop and most importantly how he did the right thing by him, even if it hurt them both, Jake knew it was the only solution. This book was a treat; the stunning cover caught my eye straight away and I loved reading about where it was set, in New Zealand and Australia, the thrills and spills of the BMX/Extreme Games world and the supporting cast were great. I haven’t read any previous books in the series but it didn’t hinder the story as the author gave enough background on the supporting characters so it can be read as a standalone.
