It's a great book for a beginning hematologist, but not thorough enough to become proficient with recognizing less-common disorders. MORE pictures of each cell type and condition need to be included, not just one of each. Students need to be trained to recognize cellular conditions, not just memorize one picture to give the correct answer. Also, the glossary and index are missing a few (rare) words. I had to use the internet instead, more than once.
Without this book learning hematology would and could have been so much harder. The questions at the back of each chapter are very helpful. Especially the charts and diagrams.
I needed this book for my school MLT hematology program. It is a really good hematology reference book with significantly deep science related to the study of blood and blood related problems. It is rather large as a volume which means that it is a good bookshelf reference book. A good range of really nice pictures and graphics as well as much information about each of the topics as you will need for a 2 year, 4 year degree and beyond. Well laid out information allows for easier understanding despite the depth of knowledge portrayed.
When I first saw this book I got scared because of the size and weight of it, but when I finally got the courage to open it and start reading it, it surprised me! I found this book to be really good and the pictures are great and help out a lot. The case studies at the end of each chapter are really great and got me to understand more and think about the content of the chapter, which by doing that helped me to remember!! Also the last part of the book: Laboratory methods, was a great help to me both in preparing for class and when it came to writing the report, the book tells you step by step how the procedures are done. I will always keep this book for reference as I know it will help in during my career as a lab technongist.
This book looks old but it's my favorite heme textbook so far. Everything is explain in a way that's easy to understand.
I am a college student and this book is not at the top of my list of most dependable resources. It is not self-explanatory at all. With that being said, it goes into detail without telling the reader "need-to-know" information and/or terms. None of the words are in bold nor are they highlighted, so there is no way of distinguishing the important information from the trivial information. I do not recommend this book and it's definitely not worth the price.
Great resource for anyone in a Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science Program! I would highly recommend this book!
Great pictures, A little lengthy in wording, but you can scan read it and get all the info you would need. It goes into very good depth yet not too much to be boring. Also the reviews summary and questions at the end of each chapter are very helpful.
